Casa La Straniera
This seventeenth century stone farmhouse enjoys a spectacular setting in the heart of Umbria. It overlooks the Spoleto Valley with views across to the city of Spoleto in the south and to Assisi in the north. The house forms a separate part of our larger home, which will remain unoccupied during visits from guests to guarantee your complete privacy. Recently restored, it has a marvellously quiet and restful atmosphere. Surrounded on three sides by olive trees it sits on the edge of a picturesque village set halfway up a hill crowned by a ruined castle.
Spend your day relaxing in the large secluded terraced garden, listening to the cicadas or enjoying the completely private twelve-meter swimming pool. Or visit the nearby cultural gems; Spoleto, with its mix of Roman and Medieval pretty squares and streets, is only a brief drive away. The beautiful towns of Spello, Trevi, Montefalco, Bevagna, Assisi and Perugia are all within easy reach, or venture up into the bracing terrain of the Monti Sibillini National Park or visit the beautiful lake Trasimeno. On your return watch the sun set behind Montefalco from the terrace. Rome is only one hour and twenty minutes away with a train from Spoleto and a day trips to Siena or Firenze are easily made.
The house would be an ideal base for visiting the Spoleto Festival. Nearby are excellent restaurants specialising in the local produce and serving traditional Umbrian dishes; this is black truffle country. Excellent local vineyards, where the wine from the local Sagrantino and Trebbiano varieties is produced, are happy to arrange private tours and tastings.
